Tara Ritacco Lecture: Contemporary Textiles/Natural Dyes and Indigo Dyeing

Tara has a BA in Textiles and Clothing, Patternmaking and Design. She has worked in the garment industry in Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego Counties. She sourced and developed custom textiles and was on the character costuming team for the Walt Disney Company for 13 years studying under master dyers. Tara was also a product developer making conscious decisions about sustainable products for prAna, Columbia Sportswear developing outerwear, yogamats, bags, hats, scarves, and gift items. She taught Textile Science as an adjunct professor at two community colleges. Tara teaches workshops in dyeing and printing textiles and has lectured for local guilds and museums. She encourages others to participate in learning new techniques and skills. Her wearable art and art quilts are in many galleries and exhibits across the US. Tara recently served on the Board of Directors and was Curatorial Chair at Visions Museum of Textile Arts in San Diego. She coordinated interpretations 2023, a biennial at VMOTA focusing on 3-Dimensional Textiles and Art Quilts. She is a member of Quilts on the Wall.
