Monthly Meetings

General meetings are held the second Tuesday of the month.

We meet from 9:30am - noon at El Corazon Senior Center, located at:

3302 Senior Center Drive, Oceanside, CA  92056

Meeting dates and times are subject to change and will be posted in the Meetings & Workshops page.

Guests may attend by paying a $10 guest fee.

Monthly Program

Each month we provide a program or guest speaker to educate our members on quilting techniques or particular aspects of quilting of interest to our Guild.

These presentations include finished quilting projects that demonstrate the techniques and special skills used by our speaker. We see new patterns, learn about color selection, and see novel and innovative quilting techniques that we can incorporate into our own projects. Many of our speakers are well known industry experts or they are seasoned quilters whose quilts have been recognized winners at quilting shows all over the country. We bring the best artists to you!

Workshops

Workshops are held the Wednesday following Guild meetings and are usually presented by that month’s speaker. No workshops are scheduled the month of major fundraising events or retreats.

Workshops are held at Quilt in a Day in San Marcos. See "Upcoming Events" below for details.

There may be a waiting list, so please sign up early. Your workshop reservation is not guaranteed until payment is received.

Register online using the workshop button for each workshop listed below.

Easy and Fabulous Straight Line Ruler Work Workshop

    Jenny K. Lyon Supply List.pdf

Ruler work is a great way to get accurate results with less marking, and, it’s fun. Straight line ruler work is an ideal way to try this technique without a large investment in rulers; you only need one ruler!

In this 3-hour workshop, I will show ways to incorporate straight line ruler work into your quilts. The workshop includes a kit with a pre-printed panel (with markings that wash out!) and a unique ruler that makes straight line ruler work virtually fool proof. This is a great class for a newer free motion quilter, as ruler work simplifies the process.

Kit fee - $36, includes a quilt sandwich and ruler; unique panel is pre-printed and marks will wash out.

    Supply list

     ● Your best machine for free motion quilting.

    ● Manual for machine. Please make sure you know how to set up your machine for free motion quilting before class.

    ● Ruler foot for your machine. I strongly suggest the foot made specifically for your brand of machine. Any generic ruler foot or any foot that fits a variety of brands will not be as good as the one made for your brand. They are expensive and may need to be ordered by your local quilt shop.

    ● Quality thread, preferred 50 or 60 weight, neutral color. If you go out and buy thread, Aurifil is a good choice, it behaves well.

    ● Wound bobbin (same thread choices as above).

    ● Extra empty bobbin.

    ● Size 80/12 topstitch needles for your machine.

    ● Scissors or snips.

    ● Other free motion notions that you normally use at home (gloves, slider, straight stitch plate?). Please note, I bring a small store with my favorite free motion quilting supplies, available for purchase for a reasonable cost.

    ● Notetaking supplies.

NOTE: The provided kit includes a quilt sandwich with a pre-printed panel (markings will wash out) and a unique straight line ruler.

    Scrappy Appliqué

Utilize your leftover fabric scraps, precuts, or any of your favorite fabrics to create a one of kind project.

Scrappy Appliqué is a raw edge applique technique where you collage scrap fabrics to create your applique piece. This method was developed by Shannon Brinkley, an international speaker, author and designer.

The process is quick, fun, simple to pick up, and every level of quilter will enjoy it whether a beginner or advanced.

Workshops teach the Scrappy Appliqué method in a fun, engaging environment where everyone will learn the skills to confidently turn any template into an original design.

This one of a kind technique allows each person to reflect their own personality in their project by the choices made in colors, fabrics, shapes and finishing.

So you've made a dynamite quilt, but you're not sure if you need to add a border, and if so, what it should look like.  This month's meeting is for you!

Join us to hear Sandy Corbin and her program, "Let's Talk About Borders." In her lecture Sandy will discuss the impact a border can make on your quilt.  You'll learn to determine whether your quilt needs a border, the different styles of borders, and how to size your border to fit any quilt.

Sharing

Members may bring completed projects to share at each meeting; there is a limit of two quilts per person. It is inspiring and great fun to see the talents of other members. Sharing forms are available at the sharing table (usually located at the far side of the stage). Each quilt will be folded and the form included. During sharing, your photo may be taken. Please let the Guild photographer know if you prefer to not be photographed.
